About the Foundation
The Cameron Dog Foundation was founded in 2010, by friends Sue and Wendy, and is a registered UK charity working with local communities in Sri Lanka to improve the health and outcomes of street dogs and dogs with families, seeking support to give their pets the best chance at life.

Our work supports education in animal welfare, treatment of sick animals, sterilisation of Sri Lanka’s street dog population, finding homes for healthy animals and providing rehabilitation and a sanctuary to a small number of dogs who cannot survive life as a street dog.

Our small animal sanctuary is situated in Sri Lanka’s Western Province and has treated hundreds of dogs, managing to rehome many of them. Our shelter currently houses 35 dogs who may never secure forever homes. We have dedicated staff on site 24 hours a day and strong relationships with local vets who monitor the health of our residents, providing medical treatment when necessary.
Our Mission

-
To reduce the ever-growing population of street dogs by providing spay and neutering pop up clinics in rural areas
-
To provide knowledge and education around animal care and maintenance
-
To provide treatment to dogs when they are sick and/or injured
-
To provide care and treatment to the dogs in our care at our shelter
-
To raise awareness of the plight of dogs in need
-
To give treatment and vaccination to street dogs to enable dogs to return to the streets and provide ongoing monitoring from our team
What We Do
We rescue and rehabilitate dogs no longer able to survive on the streets. We believe dogs like Shadow deserve a full and healthy life and give them the medical care and environment to allow them to thrive.

Who We Are
The Cameron Dog Foundation was founded in 2010 by Sue Sinclair and the late Wendy Magee. During a visit to Sri Lanka we met a dog who had survived more than 3 attempts to poison him. We treated him and arranged to adopt him. We named him Lucky and brought him home to the UK where he lived with us until he passed away in 2023.

As lifelong animal lovers, animal welfare advocates and NHS workers, we quickly realised our new calling to work with local communities to improve conditions for animals, to reduce street dog populations and to offer a sanctuary to a small number of dogs on our plot of land.

We have dedicated staff, including Ruwan, who love and care for the animals and enrich the environment with beautiful horticulture, providing shade and interest for our residents.
How to help
We are a very small charity and are almost entirely self funded by our founders. Times are harder than ever with the passing of co-founder Wendy Magee.
Your help and support is invaluable to us and there are many ways you can show your support. Every penny of donations received is spent on caring for our resident canines and our outreach work. Only our local staff draw a salary. We cover our own expenses and never use donations for these.
Check out our Amazon wishlist, support us for free via Easyfundraising, consider making a one off or monthly donation and help spread the word by sharing and liking our social media posts. Use the 'Contact Us' form if you are interested in volunteer opportunities.
